Common Questions |
How does a
mail server function?
The Internet Anywhere™ Corporate Email Server is designed exclusively for
the Microsoft Windows operating system. Messages are sent
directly to the mail server using client software, such as
Microsoft Outlook, using the SMTP protocol. If you have a new
message waiting it is transferred the workstation using the the
POP3. Local emails are delivered using the local part of the
email address.
Email is sent to the Internet in a similar manner. When the mail
server determines that an email is for a non-local recipient, it
transfers the email using SMTP to the target server. This target
server can either be your ISP's or the mail server for the
recipient. In the case of direct delivery, the domain portion of
the email address of the recipient is used to locate the
recipients mail server.
In
the Corporate version, IMAP can be used to leave and manipulate
the email on the mail server. This allows remote users access
their email from many different clients, located in different
locations.
Works with all
standards compliant Internet Email Servers and Clients
Internet Mail servers all implement the RFC standards for SMTP
and POP3. This allows any RFC compliant email server or client
to exchange email with each other.
Is the
configuration complex?
Our
configuration wizard will have you ready to go in as little as 5
minutes. Once the basic configuration is complete all you need
to do is add the local email accounts. If some cases, you will
also need to configure the mail server to access your remote
POP3 accounts and SMTP pickup options.
What are the
system requirements?
The
system requirements rise depending on the number of users and
the expected data transfer rate. Usually a 20 -50 mailbox
configuration will run fine on a mid-level
Pentium class PC with 256/512 RAM and Windows 2000 Professional.
For a Internet Service Provider or large enterprise, a Intel
xenon binary system with SCSI non removable disks and approx.
1-2 GB RAM is recommended.
As a platform we recommend 2000 Professional or Server. A SCSI
non removable disk will also increase the system performance.
